Reach Out To Asia Announces 2007 Wheels 'n' Heels

5 December 2006

Qatar-based charity organization, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), has announced plans to hold a second Wheels 'n' Heels community fun day aimed at encouraging the residents of Qatar out into the fresh air and participating in healthy activity.

Following the format of the 2006 Wheels 'n' Heels, which attracted a 10,000 strong crowd and raised awareness not only of the charity, but also the need for a healthy lifestyle, the event will target cyclists, skaters, skateboarders and walkers - including special needs children.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, 27th January, Wheels 'n' Heels is organized in conjunction with Qatar Cycling Federation to coincide with the arrival in Qatar of many of the world's top professional cyclists for the annual Tour of Qatar cycling competition. Their participation, riding alongside the children as they circuit the 4km flat course along Doha's Corniche waterfront, adds an element of excitement to the day.

Last year's event, which was sponsored by Shell Qatar, drew a number of celebrity participants - amongst them legendary world class cyclist Eddy Merckx, supermodel Linda Evangelista, local television personality Baba Linga, Egyptian singer Ihab Tawfik and actress Layla Eloui - together with a number of the region's top sportsmen and women. Children enjoyed the choice of riding the circuit or joining in fun activities and entire families, from babes in arms to elderly grandparents, from a diversity of cultures and nationalities entered into the carnival atmosphere.

A Lifestyle Village will, once again, be an exciting feature of the day, adding a further element of enjoyment by offering a fairground-style area of attractions aimed at the entire family; side shows, demonstrations, corporate stands and bazaar-style stalls.

ROTA's endeavor of "education for all" firmly embraces sport and healthy living as integral facets of education, following the age old maxim of "healthy body, healthy mind".
